Bajra or Pearl millet is an amazing grain commonly used in Maharasthra that is very rich in iron. Its iron content is about 3-4 times higher than whole wheat! And combining with pumpkin seeds not only enriches the iron content, but adds in a whole lot of other minerals too. Zinc for example is abundantly present in pumpkin seeds. Zinc increases appetite in children.
So for those moms who are always worrying about their kids not eating enough, now you know what to feed them :-)
Do try this quick and easy recipe.
Ingredients:
Bajra - 250g
Pumpkin Seeds - 50g
Lotus Seeds - 50g (Optional)
Procedure for Preparing the Porridge Powder:
Wash the grains and sun dry it well for 4-5 hours. Dry roast bajra for 10 mins in a broad pan. Some grains might even pop out like a popcorn. Keep this aside and now roast the pumpkin seeds for 5 mins on a medium flame. Roast the lotus seeds for 10 mins if you are using them. Grind them all together and add some cardamom for natural flavour. Store in an air tight container. You can safely use this for 1-2 months.
Procedure for making the Porridge:
Step 1. Take 2-3 spoons of the porridge powder in a clean broad steel vessel.
Step 2: Add 50-60 ml of water or milk and mix well to remove the lumps.
Step 3. Continuously stir the porridge and cook for 5 mins on a medium flame
Step 4. Add jaggery or dry dates powder to sweeten. You can also make it with dal pani or add vegetables to this porridge.
Try feeding this porridge every alternate day either in the morning or noon so that your baby has enough time to digest it well over the day.
If you are super busy to make it yourself, don’t worry! You can buy 100% organic bajra porridge mix, free from sugar, salt, milk powder chemicals, pesticides and added flavors, directly from our store.
